FORM PILATES STUDIO INFORMATION

What is PILATES ?
Joseff Pilates pioneered the method we now know as Pilates in the early 1900’s. Over his lifetime he combined yoga, gymnastics, resistance training and breath patterns to form his system of postural conditioning.

The STOTT PILATES™ difference
In the 80’s STOTT PILATES™ was developed by Moira Merrithew as a contemporary approach to the original mind-body method of Pilates. The system has undergone extensive research in biomechanics and kinesiology over the recent years.

The method incorporates modern science and rehabilitation principles in a safe, highly effective, low impact way to strengthen and streamline your body. Used by athletes, dancers, actors and people of all ages and walks of life, STOTT PILATES™ is the perfect complement to improving performance, fitness and wellbeing.

Who are FORM PILATES?

At FORM PILATES studio we offer professional certified instruction in the above method to individuals and small groups (5-10 persons).
You can be assured that by using a STOTT PILATES™ instructor you are receiving a world renowned calibre of highly trained professional.

In the recent years many new styles of Pilates have sprung up as the fitness industry has popularised the method. We believe that in keeping our client to instructor ratio low we can offer more precise and effective instruction. We have specialized equipment to challenge the exercise safely. Large groups mean that you are only getting a fraction of the instructor’s attention.
More attention: More results. It’s a simple as that.

Injury, Rehab and Special Populations

Pilates is often recommended as an ideal way to continue recovery from injury or to maintain mobility in the case of certain conditions such as arthritis, MS etc.
It is vital that you exercise at a pace that is suited to your physical condition.
Pilates at this level is best practised in groups of four or less.
We recommend all persons who are recovering from injury and have been referred to the studio to have a private session before embarking on a group programme.

Special populations cover areas such as pregnancy and it is recommended to receive your GP’s consent before embarking on a specific exercise programme suitable for pregnancy. Pilates can be the ideal way to start exercise after pregnancy by stabilizing and strengthening the abdominal wall and pelvis. We recommend waiting at least 12 weeks post partum.

Whether you’re an elite athlete or a pure beginner, you can benefit. The secret is non-impact resistance, which eliminates stress on your joints, making Pilates safe, versatile, and effective for all ages and fitness levels. What ever your goal, to increase athletic fitness, over come an injury or work out despite a chronic illness, our instructors will develop a programme which evolves to suit your need.

What to expect?
STOTT PILATES™ matwork is performed on a thick cushioned mat at floor level. Your first 3-5 sessions are about learning the principles of stability through out the torso and sequencing movement form the deep abdominal muscles and spinal column. This is done through small precise exercises coupled with breath awareness. As your strength and coordination increases then so does the intensity of the exercise, gradually increasing the challenge as your ability allows.

Every body works at a different pace, which is why we at FORM PILATES have levels of class suited to all abilities from beginners through to advanced. (See current programme)
